LONDON (AP) — Fulham manager Martin Jol says the club is close to signing Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United.
The former Bulgaria striker, who has been out of favor at United since the end of the 2010-11 season, is undergoing a medical examination at the London club.
Jol, who coached Berbatov when both were at Tottenham in 2006 and '07, says "there were a lot of clubs interested in him but we were able and capable of getting him."
British media say the striker will cost Fulham about 4 million pounds ($6.35 million). Berbatov is behind Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the list of strikers at Old Trafford.
Jol also said Thursday that Fulham had agreed a fee with Sunderland to sign Kieran Richardson.
