Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Reeko Moosa Manik has said that MDP has commenced investigations into the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI), established to probe the transfer of power.
Moosa Manik told reporters prior to his departure to Bandos Island Resort to participate in the meeting tonight between political parties, that MDP will comment on the report after investigation by its National Council, despite the fact that the report was released after the resignation of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s representative to the CNI, Gaha Ahmed Saeed.
Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that Nasheed refused to accept the report when it was presented to him.
The report of the CNI released today states that the change of President in the Maldives on 7 February 2012 was legal and constitutional; the events that occurred on 6 and 7 February 2012 were, in large measure, reactions to the actions of President Nasheed; and that the resignation of President Nasheed was voluntary and of his own free will, and not caused by any illegal coercion or intimidation.
Moosa Manik said that he had received the agenda of tonight’s meeting, and stressed that sincerity must be prioritised for these talks to be productive.
He said that MDP will make three suggestions in relation to the current situation of the Maldives, at tonight’s meeting.
The meeting at Bandos Island Resort will also be attended by President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
