Porto, Braga secure 1st Portuguese victories

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Lucho Gonzalez scored goals in each half to steer Portuguese champion FC Porto to its first victory of the season Saturday with a 4-0 win over Guimaraes.

The Argentine midfielder opened the scoring at the Dragon Stadium with a 16th-minute strike before Brazil forward Hulk made it 2-0 in the 66th. Gonzalez scored his second five minutes later before Jackson Martinez chipped a brave penalty past goalkeeper Douglas in the 80th as Porto rallied from its scoreless draw to open the season.

Championship rivals Benfica and Sporting look to keep pace after opening-day draws when they play Setubal and Rio Ave, respectively.

Elsewhere, Ruben Micael scored a pair of first-half goals to guide Braga to a 3-1 win over Beira Mar and its first victory of the season.
