President: Five years too long for Presidency

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that five years is too long for a term of Presidency. 

Speaking at the second meeting of Jazeera Holhuashi last night, the President said that five years is too long for him to be a President. 

President Solih said that he believes five years is too long for Presidential term and a parliament term. 

The President made the statement in his speech closing the LGA discussions last night. Some Councilors proposed that three years is too short for a council term. 

President Solih said that he believes it is better for elected officials to go the people more often than trying to have a long term. And if officials are doing good work, they would be re-elected by the public. 

The Constitution currently states that the term of office is five years for Presidents and MPs and three years for local councils.
