President calls to choose brotherhood over political rivalry on the occasion of Eid

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has called upon the people of the Maldives to forget political division and rivalry and to choose brotherhood instead on the auspicious occasion of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr.

In a Statement to greet the people on the occasion of the Eid, the first day of which is tomorrow, the President said that the Maldivian people should, at the moment, remember that they are one people and live out the spirit of brotherhood.

“Despite the political rivalry that has gripped our society today, it is a time for all of us to be especially mindful of preferring national interest over personal interests and choosing over all else the spirit of friendship and brotherhood”, read the Statement issued by the President’s Office.

The President’s Statement also stated that it was his deep pleasure to greet and congratulate the Maldivian people on the occasion of Eid. The Statement also said that Eid is an occasion for well-wishing and expression of love and friendship.

The President also called upon the people to remember the destitute and needy and help them, strengthen the ties of kinship, as these are the most noble objectives related to the Eid.

The President also sent greetings to the leaders of Islamic nations and international Islamic organizations on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr is a Muslim festival that follows the holy month of Ramadan in the Muslim calendar. It runs for the first 3 days of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan in that calendar.
