Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has shared its Report on the incidents of February 6 and 7 with concerned authorities. The Report of the HRCM was prepared after a thorough investigation into human rights related issues raised on the aftermath of the incidents of the said days.
A mass demonstration by the people on the 6th of February this year led to the consequent resignation of the then President Mohamed Nasheed on the following day.
The HRCM said that the report was shared with concerned parties on Thursday. However, the HRC did not specify what those parties were, and the Report has not been published either.
HRCM has conducted three significant investigations into alleged human rights abuses and crises in the Maldives and Reports have been prepared in each case. Those reports have made suggestions as to the improvement of human rights conditions in the Maldives as well.
Two of the three Reports prepared by the HRCM have been published as well. They are the Report on the Illegal Arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdullah Muhammad by former President Nasheed’s government, and the Report on the violence that occurred in Malé on the day of Nasheed’s resignation as President.
