CNI report will reveal that Police and MNDF violated the law: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI), set up to investigate the transfer of power, will reveal that several officers of the Police and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had violated the law.

Nasheed made this statement while speaking at the ceremony held at Artificial Beach to mark August 12-13, or Black Friday, by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

“I will not go home before those Police and MNDF officers are brought to justice,” Nasheed said.

He also said that the CNI’s report will reveal that the government was overthrown by a ‘coup’ on 7 February 2012.

He noted that most Police and MNDF officers are not ‘evil’, and that the country can progress with the remaining patriotic Police and MNDF officers.

He said that Police and MNDF officers should not be worried about MDP returning to power, and assured that MDP will make proper use of the Police and MNDF institutions.

Most attendees at last night’s ceremony were dressed in black. A presentation of the arrests made on 12-13 August 2004, and the injuries sustained by those who were arrested, was included in the ceremony.
