National Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Weather Alert to Addu City and Laamu atoll.
The southern most atolls have been experiencing torrential rains all day and the MET Office issued the Yellow Alert today for the duration of 6 p.m to 10 p.m. saying that thunderstorms are expected in the two atolls.
A Yellow Weather Alert is issued to warn communities and authorities stay prepared for possible disaster. With an alert out due to torrential rain and strong winds with possibility of a cyclone, it is unsafe for sea travel.
MET Office said that showers are expected across the country with heavy rains in the south and central atolls. Winds are expected to be between 7 to 17 miles per hour in the southern atolls with up to 35 miles per hour during showers and 5 to 15 miles per hour in the other atolls.
Seas are expected to be moderately rough in the southern atolls. Other areas are expected to have calmer but rough seas during showers.
