Police enter and confiscate documents at DMC after corruption charges

The Police have today entered the office premises of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and taken out some documents, following charges of corruption.

Deputy Minister Ahmed Zaki, who is in charge of the DMC said that Police took the action in order to conduct investigations into the financial transactions involved in a project carried out at L. Gan this year. Zaki also said that the project was valued at some 18 million Rufiyaa.

“The police came here, saying that they had had reports of corruption in some payments with regards to the project. They checked documents related to the project, and they checked my cabin itself, and they took away some documents”, Zaki said.

Zaki also said that the Police had informed him of possible additional visits in the investigations.

Zaki said that no transactions involved in the project or any other project had been conducted in a way that would lead to corruption, and that all dealings had been done in perfect accord with the laws and regulations on handling public funds.

While Deputy Minister Zaki confirmed the visit of police and confiscation of certain documents, Ahmed Shiyam, Police Media Official, rejected the reports, saying that they had entered the premises of DMC following reports of illegal entry by some persons into the building.

When Sun reporters went to the place, there were no signs of any violence or chaos, but few people were gathered in front of DMC office.
