Auto-gate service to begin at Hulhumale

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that auto-gate service will be introduced at Hulhumale’ Ferry Terminal this year.

Head of Transport Department of MTCC Ismail Farig said that the service will begin in December 2012.

This would allow passengers to use electronic cards instead of paper tickets to travel on the ferry.

“Passengers can pass through the gates without having to queue up to buy tickets. We are observing how similar systems work in other countries,” he said.

MTCC has not yet disclosed the rules to be followed to obtain the electronic cards.
