A case has been filed at the Prosecutor General's Office against the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gaoom along with the Chief Justice, Abdulla Saeed and the Supreme Court Judge, Ali Hameed, charged with destroying evidence needed for the police investigation.
In a tweet sent out today, Maldives Police Service said that the cases against all three has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office after completing the investigation.
No further details were offered by the Police.
While the police have sent out such a tweet, two days ago, the Spokesperson of the Police, Superintendent Ahmed Shifan said that the cases against some of the people in custody charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government will be sent to the Prosecutor General this week.
After a state of emergency was declared on 5 February, President Maumoon was arrested at Endherimaage.
Police have three charges against the former President including offering bribes to overthrow the government and attempting to influence judges to achieve a certain outcome.
The former President is also suspected of creating division among the security forces and advocating actions against the government.
Chief Justice, Abdulla Saeed is charged with accepting bribes to rule in favor of a certain group of people and conspiracy to overthrow the government. Along with the Chief Justice, Supreme Court Judge, Ali Hameed was also arrested on similar charges.
