Police prevent gang-fight in Henveiru

Police officers patrolling Malé have prevented a clash between two gangs which was taking a turn to a gang-fight. The incident occurred near the building of College of Islamic Studies in Henveiru.

The police arrested an 18-year old man at the scene.

The Maldives Police Services said today that the clash was spotted by two police officers, who took immediate action to stop it from becoming a fight. Those two officers, who were unarmed, risked their lives by immediately jumping into the scene and tried to protect the man being attacked.

The officers who first intervened in the clash then called Police Command Center, and more police officers rushed to the scene and controlled it.

The Police said that the clash was between two gangs, and that it began at the Golden Jubilee Carnival Area.

Giving details about how the clash began, the Police said that people belonging to the two groups had a dispute at Carnival areas, after which one of the groups came to a place nearby the College of Islamic Studies. The other group followed, and tried to begin the fight.
