G. Dh. Rathafandhoo has suffered extensive damage due to torrential rain affecting the southern part of Maldives.
President of Rathafandhoo Council, Hunaif Aslam reported to “Sun” that it rained heavily over the island from 1:30 am to 10 am this Saturday. He said households and office buildings have suffered damages due to flooding.
“Around 10 households were affected by flooding. Flooding also affected the Council headquarters, the health center, the magistrate court and the pharmacy. The flood water has been drained from all but two houses now,” said Hunaif.
He added that flooding has damaged household items and appliances in some of the households.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Spokesperson, Captain Ibrahim Azim said damage from flooding in Rathafandhoo was reported to the authority at 9 am this Saturday.
Azim said officers from the Southern Area Command of MNDF was operating in the area, draining flood water using pumps.
