Maldives Police Service has refuted reports Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abdulla Nawaz is about to fire a number of police officers from the service.

A list – purportedly of police officers whose arrests have been ordered went viral in social media circles last Saturday. The list included names of some senior police officers – including assistant police commissioners, chief superintendents and superintendents.

The list also included former CP Ahmed Areef, and his replacement DCP Ahmed Saudhy – who have both been terminated from their posts.

MPS tweeted on Saturday evening that the list was inaccurate.
