The Supreme Court has not asked for assistance from the government of India to enforce the court order it issued of February 1, says Department of Judicial Administration (DJA).
Some Indian newspapers have carried reports the Supreme Court asked for India’s assistance to enforce its court order.
The DJA denied the reports, saying neither the department, nor the Supreme Court has made any such request.
The Supreme Court, on February 1, ordered the immediate release of nine political prisoners, whose trials the court said were politically influenced.
The government is yet to implement the order, and Supreme Court released a second order last Sunday, stating there is no legal barrier to implementing the order, and that the order must be implemented.
