Supreme Court overrules court order to arrest Judicial Administrator

Supreme Court of the Maldives have overruled the court order to arrest the Judicial Administrator, Hassan Saeed Hussain, issued by the Criminal Court.

In a court order issued today, the Supreme Court said that following the court order to arrest Hassan Saeed in relation to a bribery investigation by the police, the Supreme Court has found that the order to arrest the highest authority in the judicial system, the Judicial Administrator was not issued through due procedure.

Today's court order said that they have ordered the Criminal Court to send the documents of the case that show the procedure from the moment the case was filed at the court, to the Supreme Court by 7 p.m. tonight.

A statement issued by the police today said that they have received a document of a transaction of purchase by shows Hassan Saeed to buy an apartment at the Commercial Housing Apartment Project and they have received evidence in documents of a bribe.

Police said that they also have evidence that Chief Judge, Abdulla Saeed and two family members of the Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed also attempted to buy an apartment.

Early this morning, Police entered the residence of the Judicial Service Administrator, Hassan Saeed at H. Nishan Plaza. So it is unclear as to why they entered the residence.
