Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon’s bribery hearing, scheduled for this Sunday morning, has been cancelled.
The hearing was scheduled for 10 am.
The hearing was cancelled after journalists, Faris’ family members and some members of the opposition wrote their names to attend the hearing.
The Criminal Court announced the hearing was cancelled at the instruction of presiding judge, Judge Ali Adam at approximately 11 am.
Faris is currently in detention at the Dhoonidhoo Prison.
He was not escorted to the court for the hearing, and the police has given no reason why.
Faris is among the political leaders whose immediate release the Supreme Court ordered on February 1. The order has not been implemented.
