Shareef: Receiving threats Fenaka, MRDC facilities may be torched

With the political situation in the country in turmoil, authorities have received threats of a possible arson attack on a Fenaka Corporation facility and a MRDC facility, says Managing Director of MRDC, Ahmed Shareef.

Speaking during this Saturday morning’s press conference by senior State officials at the PPM Campaign Office, Shareef said the Fenaka Corporation has received threats one of the corporation’s facilities in the atolls may be torched.

“One of the Fenaka branches received an anonymous message in the latenight hours yesterday. The message said they had information of a plan to torch the Fenaka Corporation’s site and the MRDC’s site at the island. We brought it to the attention of Maldives Police Service, immediately,” said Shareef.

Shareef said that State facilities were targeted with arson attacks and break-ins during the riots with the fall of the government on February 7, 2012.

He said that Fenaka Corporation provided an essential service to the public, and that any damage to the corporation’s facilities will affect the people.

Shareef said that there weren’t security forces in the atolls to protect State facilities.

He appealed to the general public to protect State facilities and prevent any arson attacks.
