Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader and Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed has said that from now on, there will be ‘war’ at the Parliament.
Speaking at the MDP rally at Artificial Beach last night, Waheed said that MDP had been calm and had attempted to solve issues through peaceful dialogue for five months, because the people of Maldives would suffer if the opposing groups begin fighting at the Parliament.
He pointed out that even though the current government holds majority at the Parliament, they have not been able to pass any productive legislation.
Waheed stressed that MDP will not hesitate to halt the Parliament; no matter how heavy a fine is imposed for doing so.
He also heavily criticised Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid, accusing him of having organised the ‘coup’. He said that Shahid should take responsibility for the injuries sustained by members of the public due to use of excessive force by the Police.
Criticism was also targeted at former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
“After attending the CNI to provide information, he told reporters that he will not accept the CNI’s conclusions. Why did he even go there? How amazing, astounding,” he said.
While Waheed has ‘declared war’ at the Parliament, MDP has called on all involved groups to hold peaceful dialogue to solve the issue of the Parliament being indefinitely suspended.
