PPM cannot erase us from existence, says DRP

Divehi Rayyithunge Pary (DRP) the main opposition in the Maldives has today said that the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) will not be able to erase them from existence.

PPM, a new political party in the process of formation, is being established by a group of prominent DRP leaders who ditched their party, under the leadership of DRP Founder and former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom.

In a press conference held by DRP today, the party’s Parliamentary Group Member and MP for Funadhoo Constituency, Ali Saleem, said that DRP had 38000 members on its registry, and that PPM would face utter failure in their efforts to “push DRP into extinction”.

Saleem stated that only 300 members of DRP had submitted requests for membership termination following the movement of PPM. He also stated that DRP had been attracting new members without any interruptions.

“We are in a strong position, and our only goal is to defeat the current government in the 2013 presidential election, and the spirit of our members is directed towards that goal”, said Saleem.
