Non-governmental organization – Falcon Youth and Recreation Club has urged A. A. Maamingili Council to work for the people instead of promoting a particular political interest and prioritizing self-interest.
Falcon alleged in a press statement it issued last Saturday that Maamingili councilors prioritized self-interest over the interests of the community.
Falcon’s allegation comes after Maamingili Council issued a statement regarding Custom’s operation in Villa Group’s resorts. The council said in the statement that the operation will affect tourism and the people working at the resorts and their families. The statement specifically stressed Holiday Island and Sun Island in A. Dh. Atoll.
Maamingili Council noted that Qasim Ibrahim, owner of Villa Group, has provided numerous assistance to Maamingili.
Falcon condemned the statement by Maamingili Council, expressing concern over lack of comment by the council regarding additional issues facing the island.
It especially expressed concern over the council’s silence over the destruction of the wall surrounding the transshipment port being developed by Maldives Ports Limited, and the council’s decision to cancel the proposal to develop a park in the east of Maamingili Harbor, via a decree.
Falcon said what the youth of the island wanted most was housing, and said the council was not doing enough to issue land to them.
The organization urged Maamingili Council to support development projects by the State.
