Part of a second G. A. Kanduhulhudhoo fishing boat has broken off at sea.
A crew member of the fishing boat “Fahi Roadhi” who spoke to “Sun” said they discovered the keel of the boat was broken while catching bait outside Kanduhulhudhoo this Sunday morning. Some of the crew members were diving when they made the discovery sometime between 6 am to 7 am. Its most likely the damage took place last Saturday, reports the crew member.
The boat has now been taken to Kanduhulhudhoo.
“The keel being broken is a huge loss. We have to build the keel again,” said the crew member.
Kanduhulhudhoo currently has three fishing boats. Part of one of the boats broke at sea last Saturday, a second one is suffering engine damage and the third one now has a broken keel.
President of Kanduhulhudhoo Council, Ahmed Shaheem reported to “Sun” that all three of the fishing boats have been grounded due to damage, leaving the fishermen on the island desperate.
“The engine of one of the boats got damaged about two weeks ago. The other boat is broken. There is currently no source of income for the fishermen. And there’s no way for households to get any fish,” said Shaheem, expressing concern over the situation.
