15-year-old in custody in connection with assault in Thajuddin

One of the two minors arrested in connection with the physical assault of a Thajuddin School student last Tueday has been released, while the other, a 15-year-old, remains in police custody, reports the police.

Speaking at a press conference held this Thursday at the Ministry of Education regarding the recent assault of two school students, Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Shifan said the assault which took place inside Thajuddin School resulted from disagreements between some of the school's students, and that the police arrested two students in connection with the case.

The two school students arrested in connection with the case are a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy. The 14-year-old boy has been released into the custody of his parents while the 15-year-old has been remanded to police custody for a period of 10 days, reports Shifan.

"This doesn't look like something which is common in the school environment. And we believe what happened in the Dharumavantha School case yesterday is unrelated," said Shifan.

Shifan said both cases were being investigated as priorities using the latest technology available to the police.

He said the authority did not believe the cases of assaults posed a threat to students and teachers in the school environment.
