MDP calls for dialogue regarding Parliament issue

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has called on relevant groups to hold discussions to solve the issue of the indefinite suspension of Parliament.

“MDP Parliamentary Group will only cooperate in continuing Parliament sessions if President Dr Mohamed Waheed and leaders of political parties agree to hold discussions regarding the current situation of our country,” reads a statement issued by MDP today.

Meanwhile, discussions were held today between Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid and Parliamentary Group Majority Leader MDP’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Minority Leader PPM’s Abdullah Yameen

The Parliament was suspended yesterday due to lack of an orderly setting, which is necessary to hold the sessions.

Recent Parliament sessions have had to be ended prematurely due to loss of order, with MDP Parliamentary Group Members refusing to cooperate for as long as the government insists on imposing a charge on citizens under Aasandha program.
