NIMS: Arrangements can be made not to disrupt hospital operations

After resolving the conflict among the shareholders, Noorul Islam International has said that they are ready to give assurance to the government that the they can operate the Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital without any disruptions.

Kulhudhuffushi Hospital was given to India's Noorul Islam Institute of Medical Science (NIMS) via the joint venture Noorul Islam Interntional Pvt. Ltd, to be run as a tertiary hospital. Noorul Islam Educational Trust (NIET) holds 80 percent of the shares of the company while a local named Ali Usaid holds 20 percent.

NIET's International Operations Manager in Maldives, Ahmed Naseer told Sun Media that the issues among the shareholders have been resolved and are ready to inform the Maldivian government.

After the issues with the shareholders created administrative problems at the Kulhudhuffushi Hospital, the Health Ministry took over the operations temporarily. Last week, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim gave ten days to resolve the issues with the shareholders and inform the government.

Noorul Islam's Naseer said that cooperation from the Maldivian shareholder is minimal and while he does not attend board meetings, he has been obstructing progress as well.

He said that administrative work was previously done by the Maldivian shareholder but obstructions from his side, Noorul Islam has recently taken over.

Naseer said that while the Minister's time period expires on Sunday, they would try to submit all the paperwork to assure the government that the issues have been resolved.

NIMS have brought a CT scan machine and an Echocardiogram machine to the Maldives to install at the hospital according to Naseer. But issues on the board has forced the goods to stay at the Customs uncleared.

He said that an MRI machine has also been bought for the Kulhudhuffushi Hospital and ready for transport. And it would be shipped when all the issues are resolved.
