Samah confesses in Court to Haleem

Mohamed Samah (photo) of Suvasa, K. Kaashidhoo, has confessed in Court to the murder of Policeman Adam Haleem.

Criminal Court Judge Abdullah Mohamed said that the next trial session will be held in one month to present Haleem’s heirs’ wishes on the penalty for Samah.

The Court had informed media that today’s session will be held at 14:00; however the session was held urgently at 12:00 without reporters.

An official of Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office said that they had received notifications that the session will be held at both 12:00 and 14:00, and that they had requested for the session to be held during official working hours.

The charges pressed against Samah by the State indicate that Samah stabbed Haleem on his left shoulder with a four-inch-blade knife when Haleem attempted to take Samah to Kaashidhoo Police Station for being on the street at midnight on 23 July 2012, while he was on house arrest.

As Haleem died at 12:10 that night while being treated for his wounds, Samah is charged with first degree murder.

An official of PG Office said that Samah, after confessing in Court to the crime, also said that he had been free willingly intoxicated when he attacked Haleem.

Samah said in Court that he sniffs Dunlop, drinks cologne and uses drugs to get intoxicated.
