Several MDP Members of Parliament arrested

Several Members of Parliament of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been arrested at a motorcycle-protest held to call for an early election this evening.

Police said that the arrested MPs are Thinadhoo MP Mohamed Gasam, Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Eesa and Maafannu Dhekunu MP Ibrahim Rasheed.

According to Police, they had to be arrested after they were advised several times not to go against the traffic on one-way streets.

They also broke into the area blocked by the Police, and disobeyed Police orders.

Police have also warned today that action will be taken against speeding motorcyclists.
