President inaugurates land reclaimation project Kulhudhuffushi

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the land reclamation project for the development of an airport in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

The land reclamation project is contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). For the airport development, nine hectare from the island's swamp will be reclaimed along with six hectares from th west sea of the island.

The President inaugurated the project at a special ceremony today via walkie-talkie giving the go-ahead to the captain of the MTCC dredging vessel, "Jarraaf".

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said that the airport development will be complete by mid 2018 according to the schedule.

The Kulhudhuffushi airport will have all the services as the other airports in the country with a 1,200 meter runway.
