Island Beverages Maldives (IBM) has laid the foundation and launched construction of a bottling plant at H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi.
The foundation for the bottling plant was laid in a function held this Sunday morning by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu; Managing Director of MWSC and IBM, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed; and General Manager of IBM, Mohamed Shafeeq.
IBM is spending MVR 25 million from its budget for the plant.
Speaking at the function, Managing Director Fazul said the plant will create 15 to 20 new job opportunities.
Fazul said the plant will start will bottling 330 ml, 500 ml and 1.5 l water bottles. And will build an additional plant to bottle 5 l water bottles within 2018.
“Work here will begin at the second quarter of coming year. First, we will establish a plant with capacity to bottle 10,000 bottles per hour,” said Fazul.
He said the additional plant to produce 5 l bottles will be built during the third quarter of 2018. He said the plant will have the capacity to bottle 2,000 bottles per hour. And will cost approximately MVR 30 million to build.
Fazul said the demand for Taza mineralized water bottles by IBM was in high demand by Kulhudhuffushi and surrounding islands. He said the plant will create a distribution network for Taza at the H. Dh. Atoll.
He said the plant was a chink in the chain of the State’s efforts to provide safe and affordable water services to the people.
IBM has also started construction of a bottling plant in R. Dhuvaafaru.
