JSC: No decision yet on new judges for Criminal Court

Judicial Service Commission says it is yet to select new judges for Criminal Court even though all applicants have now been interviewed.

Information officer at JSC, Hassan Zaheen reported to “Sun” that all applicants have now been interviewed, and that what remained was a JSC meeting to vote on the applicants.

The commission gave no reason for the delay in holding the vote to select new judges, nor provided a date on which the vote will take place.

Vacancy for Criminal Court judges was announced on August 17, and the interview process was completed in September.

Criminal Court has been facing criticism for delays in a number of court cases.

A defendant in the middle of trial at the Criminal Court who spoke to “Sun” said that he made lodged multiple complaints over the delay in his trial.

“I have just one case at Criminal Court. It has been many years since the case was submitted. It’s a minor misdemeanor with a small sentence. But the case still isn’t over. I have complained multiple times, but the case is still in pending,” he said.
