Saeed: Addu - biggest contributor to country’s development

Addu City is the biggest contributor to the development of Maldives, says Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed.

Minister Saeed made the statement during his speech at the “Afirinnas Thayyaara” function held at Hithadhoo, Addu City, last Saturday night.

In his speech, Saeed said the people of Addu City were educated and hardworking.

He said Addu City was the hub of development in the country, and that the people of Addu City were the fuel of the Maldivian tourism industry.

“Addu City is the biggest contributor of any development endeavor throughout Maldivian history. The people of Addu City are the fuel of the tourism industry. The people of Addu City are education. They are hardworking,” said Saeed.

Saeed said in his speech that the people of Addu City wanted no other leader but someone like President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

“The Addu City is demanding a leader like President Yameen. Addu City will not compromise with anyone else in 2018,” said Saeed, referring to the upcoming presidential election scheduled for 2018.

He said people who plundered their opportunities to rule were no longer welcome by the people of Maldives.

“When those who were once blessed with the opportunity to rule but failed to, and remain uninvolved afterwards, attempt to make a comeback, it will not be welcomed by the youth. The women will not welcome it. They will not be welcomed again. They will not be welcomed back from Addu City for sure,” said Saeed.

Saeed said the people of Addu City was witness to how President Yameen had built the nation within the three-and-a-half years of his administration, and were ready to elect him for a second term.
