Political talk: Munawar seeks JP ticket for Presidential Election

Rumors have surfaced that the former Vice President of MDP, Dr. Mohamed Munawar is seeking to acquire the Jumhooree Party ticked for the Presidential Election 2018.

After the rumors surfaced, Dr. Munawar met with the opposition heads at Main JP office at Maafannu Kunooz.

Attendees at the meeting include Yumna Maumoon, the daughter of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the MP for Kimbidhoo constituency and Deputy Leader of JP, Abdulla Riyaz, Deputy Leader of JP, Abdulla Kamaaluddheen and the Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih along with a figurehead at Adhaalath Party, Shidhaatha Shareef.

However Dr. Munawar has denied seeking the JP ticket.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting today, Dr. Munawar said that the topic of discussion at the meeting was the state of the country.

He said that there are no plans for him to be involved in the political field as he did in the past.

When asked if he would be running in the Presidential Election, Dr. Munawar said that he has no plans to do so.

Aside from being the Vice President of MDP, Dr. Munawar also served as the Attorney General for a long time during the Maumoon Presidency.

Dr. Munawar left MDP and joined Jumhooree Party before leaving that party as well.
