Imprisoned May Day protester Abdulla Rasheed passes away

Abdulla Rasheed Mohamed from G. Keema in Male’ City has passed away while serving his prison sentence in connection with the May Day Protest held by the opposition on May 1, 2015.

Information officer at Maldives Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugman reported Abdulla Rasheed passed away at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital at 10:20 am this Tuesday.

MCS reports Abdulla Rasheed was transported to Male’ City and admitted to the hospital at 12:50 last Monday afternoon for diarrhea.

Abdulla Rasheed was sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of assaulting a police officer using a weapon.
