Statement taken from MP Nazim for allegedly biting a police officer

Maldives Police Service has acquired a statement from the MP for Vaikaradhoo constitueny, Mohamed Nazim for allegedly biting a police officer.

Police summoned MP Nazim, a member of the opposition party, MDP, to the police headquarters and taken a statement from him.

MP Nazim is suspected of biting a police officer near the parliament building on 24 July 2017 along with obstruction of police duties on that day.

Ahmed Nazim Abdul-Sattar, the MP's attorney, told Sun Media that the charges have been refused and a statement has been given.

A total of 12 MPs have been charged with obstruction after breaching the police line near the parliament on 24 July. Some of those cases have gone to trial.
