Following the mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Donald J. Trump.
In his message, President Yameen said that it was with deep shock and sadness that the news of the mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip today, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and fatally injuring many more was received.
“During this hour of grief, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of USA. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.” President Yameen's message said.
A gunman perched on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas casino unleashed a hail of bullets on an outdoor country music festival below, killing at least 50 people as tens of thousands of concertgoers screamed and ran for their lives, officials said Monday.
It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Police shut down busy Las Vegas Boulevard, and federal and state authorities converged on the scene. Interstate 15 was briefly closed and flights at McCarran International Airport were suspended.
