Opposition and government MPs have agreed to investigated the difference in the price of electricity in the capital and the other islands and decided to call the relevant institutions to the government oversight committee.
The unanimous decision was made by the nine MPs that attended the committee meeting following a case submitted by the Deputy Leader of the opposition Parliamentary Group, Rozaina Adam.
The committee decided to summon the Managing Director of STELCO, Ahmed Zuhoor and the Managing Director of FENAKA Corporation, Ahmed Shareef along with the Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim.
Governing party PPMs Mohamed Shaahid, the MP for the Hulhudhoo constituency and the MP for Milandhoo constituency, Hassan Mufeed, MP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Ahmed Assad and MP for Ungoofaaru constituency, Jaufaru Dhaoodspoke in support of MP Rozaina's case. But MP Jaufaru raised the question as to why only FENAKA was mentioned in her case.
But the head of the committee, MP for Vilifushi constituency, PPM's Riyaz Rasheed, said that even if the presented case is in a certain way, MPs decisions must be followed through.
MP Riyaz said that Heads and technical staff of the STELCO, FENAKA along with the Environment Ministry will be summoned for the committee meeting on Tuesday night via letter.
