President: Employment is a right for everyone

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that employment is a right for everyone and the government aims to open the job market for the Maldivian youth.

The President made the remark at the graduation of 414 young people in the Economic Ministry's "Empowering the Next - 1000 Photographers" training program.

President Yameen said that with the lack of working locals, the Maldivian job market was left for foreigners since the days of old and so a portion of the nation's revenue goes to them. The President said that is not how it should be and that is not how he wants it.

Although women were perceived as those who do a specific type of jobs, President Yameen said that it was a false assumption. He said that women must be allowed to play key roles in the development of the nation.

The President said that he does not believe employement opportunities should be "packaged" to certain people. He said that youth is the future and hope of tomorrow and not everyone gets into the employment field after completing their education and a culture of studying while workings needs to be established.

President Yameen said that most countries in the world do not need just need educated people to develop their country, but those who have learned the jobs as well. And the Maldivian economy would develop through Technical Education.
