Civil Court has ruled that a negligence suit cannot be pursed against the police in the Civil Court in the murder of the social media activist and blogger, Yaamin Rasheed.
The Court made the decision today after looking into the Civil Suit filed against the police by the father of the victim, Hussain Rasheed.
Yaamin Rasheed's father filed the suit since threats against his son through different means have been delivered since 2010 and reported to the police yet they failed to investigate and then his son was murdered on 22 April 2017.
The suit says that with constant threats to Yaamin Rasheed, police failed to provide the protection he required. And the protection was not provided because the police institution was negligent in their legal responsibility.
The ruling made at the Civil Court today said that cases of negligence, outside civil transactions, against the police institute or individual officers has to be submitted to the National Integrity Commission.
And if the cause was pursued in the Civil Court, it openly over rules the purpose of the National Integrity Commission.
