Celebrating the International Coastal Cleanup Day 2017, 54 jumbo-sized bags of plastic waste has been collected from the beach of Dhigurah.
The cleanup done by the people of the island collected four kilometers of rope dangerous to the environment along with other plastic waste from the island's beach. And the lagoon of the island was also cleaned with the help of divers.
Dhigurah Island Council said that over 150 people took part in the cleanup led by the Island Council.
The Council said that waste was collected from 44 kilometers of the island's beach.
Dhirugrah Island Council said that they are concerned about the amount of waste collected and said that the Island Council gives special attention to waste management.
The Council said that the waste collected from the island's beach comes from the nearby islands and resorts.
The Dhigurah Island Council has conducted similar cleanup programs in the past. The council conducted a cleaning program three months ago where dangerous waste was collected from the beach and the sea.
