H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi Council has made the decision to shift houses and other property located in the area where the island’s airport is to be developed to the land near the mosque at the north harbor.
President of Kulhudhuffushi Council, Abdul Latheef Hassan reported to “Sun” this Monday that 18 properties will be shifted to the Masjidul Firdaus area.
Latheef said inhabited houses out of the 18 properties will be compensated, but that the rest will be given land in exchange for the properties they have to give up.
“The government has provided assurance houses occupied by people will be sufficiently compensated. Council has been instructed to decide where to shift them,” said Latheef.
He said none of the owners of the 18 properties objected to the shift. And that the people of Kulhudhuffushi eagerly desired for an airport on the island.
Building an airport in Kulhudhuffushi was one of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s pledges. The government had pledged to start construction of five airports in the atolls this year; airport in Kulhudhuffushi being one of them.
