Maafannu-hulhan’gu MP Abdullah Abdul Raheem has said at the Parliament today that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will not be allowed to commit further crimes in the name of democracy and freedom of media.
Speaking on the bill to revise the broadcasting regulation, Abdullah Abdul Raheem said that Maldives has been ‘destroyed’ by MDP through misuse of broadcasting freedom and democracy rights.
He said that persons working in various sectors have been attacked, including lawyers and Police officers; and speculated that tomorrow, the attacks might be targeted at MNDF personnel and Members of Parliament.
Referring to former President Mohamed Nasheed’s efforts to boycott the tourism industry, Abdullah Abdul Raheem said that Nasheed will never be successful in these efforts.
“Nasheed cannot obstruct our livelihood. He cannot block our country’s sources of income. What happened to fisheries as soon as he stepped down? The sector made progress,” Abdullah Abdul Raheem said.
He addressed members of MDP and said that they do not have to comply with Nasheed’s calls to boycott tourism.
“It’s the country’s strongest industry, why would you attempt to destroy it? I don’t believe that we have to follow or obey Nasheed. Who is he? Why should we have to follow him in anything?” Abdullah Abdul Raheem asked.
