It is important for Maldivian youth to be attuned to changes in the global political arena, says Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim.
Asim made the comment on Saturday night, during the closing of Model United Nations Conference held at Maldives National University by the Maldives Model United Nations.
Minister Asim said the Maldivian economy and the livelihood of the Maldivian people were interlinked with the global community. He said the Maldivian youth, therefore, needed to attuned to changing global trends, and contemplate on the changes and how it could impact Maldives.
“The economy of the Maldives is heavily interlinked with the outside world. We cannot survive on our own. We therefore need to think about the changing global trends, be attuned to those changes and consider how it could affect Maldives,” said Asim.
This is the first time for the MUN Conference – which has a history of over 80 years – to be held in Maldives.
Participants and partners of the MUN Conference were given certificates of recognition during the closing ceremony last Saturday night.
The MUN Conference was held from August 25-26 at Dharubaaruge. More than 200 youth between the ages of 14 years to 25 years participated in the Conference to discuss the pressing issues facing the world today.
Participants were given training by Maldives Model United Nations and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives.
Maldives Model United Nations reports it plans to make the Conference an annual event.
