Aasandha Company has said that the government has not paid the Company over the past five months, which has resulted in the Company being faced with financial difficulties.
Managing Director of Aasandha Mohamed Shafaz made this statement today in an interview with Sun Online.
“We are not asking for something more than what’s rightfully ours. This is the amount the government owes us according to the contract. Money was received until February. So we have outstanding amounts for five months,” he said.
He did not indicate how much the government owes Aasandha Company.
He said that bills of private groups and atoll hospitals are currently being paid using the money in hand.
“We have talked to them; they say they will make the payments. However, serious problems can arise if this continues,” Shafaz said.
Aasandha scheme commenced in January 2012 under an agreement with Allied Insurance. The government invested MVR720 million in the scheme, and has now decided to include private clinics in the scheme. It has also decided to provide MVR200 million in order to continue the scheme.
