Haleem buried with full honours

The burial service for Lance Corporal Adam Haleem has been held with full honours.

Adam Haleem, 26, was stabbed while on his way to report to work late last night in K. Kaashidhoo.

He was given a three-gun salute and buried at around 16:30 today at Galolhu Cemetery.

Crowds gathered near the cemetery, including President Dr Mohamed Waheed, Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed, Members of Parliament, and Police officers and MNDF officers.

People paid their last respects to the deceased at 14:00 at Islamic Centre. Among them were President Dr Mohamed Waheed, Chief Judge Abdullah Mohamed, former Commissioner of Police Faseeh, Police officers, MNDF officers, Members of the current and former cabinet, Members of Parliament, and members of the public.

At this time, a member of Haleem’s family lost consciousness and had to be taken to the hospital. The parents, wife, and three-month old son of the deceased were present at Islamic Centre.

The funeral prayer was held after Asr-prayer at Islamic Centre. The prayer was led by Islamic Minister Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Police have arrested a man in Kaashidhoo in relation to the murder of Haleem.

Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said last night that Haleem’s father had asked for the death penalty for the killers.

Political parties have been condemning this crime, including MDP, which has issued a statement urging for the strictest possible punishment for those responsible. They also strongly condemned the brutal murder of Haleem.
