Motor vehicles banned from Fulidhoo

V. Fulidhoo Council has banned operating any motor vehicles on the island.

Fulidhoo Council has issued a statement announcing that given the small size of the island and the fact that local tourism was a fast-booming business on the island, operating any motor vehicle without permission, except for ambulances, were hereby banned on the island.

“The Council has decided it will grant permission to operate motor vehicles after examining any requests to operate vehicles brought to the island for development projects by government of private parties,” announced the Council.

The Council has also prohibited driving bicycles after dark without any lights on, and parking in such a way it inconveniences others.

President of the Council of the 450-people island, Sana Ali Wafir reported to “Sun” that the decision was for the development of the island, and another step in the efforts to make the island environment-friendly.

Sana said the decision has now been informed to relevant State-bodies.
