Mundhu’s nomination as Ambassador to Lanka sent for evaluation

Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu)’s nomination by the President as the new Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka has been sent to National Security Committee of People’s Majlis for evaluation.

Mundhu is currently stationed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan.

He will replace the former Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Zahiya Zareer. The reason behind the sudden decision to relieve her of the post is unclear.

The People’s Majlis session this Tuesday – held after a month-long suspension – had to be concluded shortly after it began amid protests by opposition parliamentarians inside the Majlis chamber.
