President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has proved himself more than capable of heading a coalition government, says Deputy Leader of Maldives Development Alliance, Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ali Mauroof.
Mauroof made the comment during the inauguration of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s new hall, “Rumaalu 2” last Monday night.
In his speech, Mauroof said MDA had been part of the government coalition since day one, and pledged to remain part of the coalition when President Yameen runs for a second term in office in 2018.
Mauroof said he was invited to switch sides by Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party – which is part of the opposition coalition.
“I said I’ll never leave President Yameen, and that I will never leave this coalition,” said Mauroof.
He said he was honored to work with President Yameen, and that the Asian region has not seen a leader the likes of President Yameen in recent history.
