The trials of Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth and Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed - who were dismissed from parliament – are scheduled to begin in Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Latheef’s case is scheduled for 10:15 am and Ameeth’s case is scheduled for 1:15 pm.
Ameeth, Latheef and Vilingili MP Saud Hussain and Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Wadde) filed separate procedural motions with Supreme Court after Elections Commission announced all four have been dismissed from parliament, and announced by-elections for the four constituencies.
Saud's hearing was scheduled for 10:30 am this Tuesday, and Wadde's hearing was scheduled for 1:30 pm this Tuesday.
EC announced the dismissal of the four MPs in reference to the Supreme Court ruling that any MP who is elected to the parliament as a candidate of one party but then leaves the party or switches parties will lose their seat.
All four MPs had requested to leave their party – Progressive Party of Maldives – before the ruling was issued.
