Police: Knife used to attack officer found; officer recovering

The officer attacked during search of the speedboat enroute to K. Maafushi is recovering from injuries, and the knife used in the attack has been found underwater, reports Maldives Police Service.

Police Constable Ali Razzan – stationed at Maafushi Police Station – was injured in the line of duty in an incident which took place at 1:30 am, this Saturday morning.

Razzan suffered stab wounds to his upper body in the incident. He was transferred from Maafushi Health Center to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male’ City in the early hours of this morning and is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit.

A media official from MPS reported to “Sun” that Razzan was still being treated at the ICU, but

that he was slowly recovering from his injuries.

He said that police, along with officers from Maldives Correctional Service have recovered the knife used in the attack from underwater.

The operation during which Razzan was injured was run by Maafushi Police Station, Police Intelligence and Maldives Correctional Service to stop a shipment of contraband en route to the Maafushi Prison.

The captain of the speedboat, a 51-year-old man, two 32-year-old men and two boys under the age of 18 years have been detained by the police. One of the detainees is the suspect who attacked Razzan, reports the police.

The speedboat and the shipment of contraband have been confiscated by the police.
