Police meets with City Council regarding gang violence

Maldives Police Service has met with the members of the Malé City Council regarding the surge of gang violence in the city.

At the meeting led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Saeed at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building today, the traffic situation in the capital was also a topic of discussion. Police and the City Council discussed the ways both could work together.

Heads of the Police Service were present at the meeting, City Mayor, Shifa Mohamed and Deputy Mayor Shamaau Shareef attended alongside the Council Members.

While the police have met with the City Council regarding the gang violence in the city, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has also met with the police to discuss the violence and the increase in the human rights violations in the city.

Following the meeting on Tuesday, HRCM said that a special effort would be made to work at a national level to protect and secure the safety of the people.
